The Turn-of-the-Year in Canada
Article Abstract:
Canadian stock returns are examined to discover the existence or nonexistence of turn-of-the-year tax-loss selling pressure. A pattern of tax-loss, selling and January returns is observed both before and after Canada's enactment of the capital gains tax in 1973. The Canadian and United States' markets appear to be well integrated.
