Multi-plane model sport aircraft racing was made possible when the Federal Communications Commission allotted five spots on the 27Mhz band. The creation of the Quickie 500 race, in which basic restrictions to the model and engines were enforced, addressed technical issues caused by the growth of multi-plane racing.

Going the distance

Distance records of remote control fyling of model airplanes have grown to the point that often the planning required compares with that of a NASA project. The Pack Rat aviation team is aiming to set new distance records, but engine snags have hindered them so far.
