The Hyaenodon is the most formidable group of carnivorous predators that ever lived. They were also the most varied in size, ranging from one with a skull 26 inches long to one the size of a weasel. Hyaenodons lived during the Miocene period until the Ice Age. They are the forerunners of the extant hyenas.

Guardians of the fossils
Article Abstract:
Fossil collections show how paleontology can affect people. Some of the more important paleontological finds are dinosaur bones found in Missouri and mummified hadrasours found in the Dakotas. However, the study and teaching of paleontology is deteriorating with the absence of funds support.
