Pennsylvania was chosen to be the site of two recent first day issues. At Lahaska, PA, home of the Carousel World Museum, the Carousel Horse stamp set was released on Jul 21, 1995. In Sep 1995, Hershey, PA will have first day issues honoring Milton Hershey founder of the Hershey Food Corp.

Joint issues inspire combination FDC's
Article Abstract:
In 1959 Canada and the US issued separate commemoratives for the St. Lawrence Seaway opening. Usually when joint issues are made, the two countries have planned it that way and often participate at each others first day ceremonies. Sometimes both stamps can be cancelled in the US.

The ABC's of rate increases
Article Abstract:
Transitional postage stamps are issued whenever the rates change. Collectors are interested in getting the first day covers for such stamps. The rate change in 1991 resulted in a stamp dubbed the 'F' stamp. The most recent increase, Jan 1, 1995 is marked by the 'G' stamp.
