Phototronics: Eveready's long-promised lithium AA's have arrived. Were they worth the wait?

UCAR, Eveready's European manufacturer, has developed the LithEon AA battery that is interchangeable with alkaline batteries. While awaiting further testing in the US, it is available in Europe, Canada and Japan. Recycling time for each of 150 flashes is under 10 seconds.

Sync cords - or, whoever designed the %#*?&@*! PC connector should hang by his thumbs

PC connectors are the standard for non-dedicated flash synchronizing cords connecting cameras and flash units. Tips are presented on preventing the cords from pulling loose from cameras or pulling apart when strung together and on repairing misshapen connectors.

Have AA alkaline and nicad batteries met their match? Nickel metal-hydride batteries offer an alternative

Alkaline batteries offer more power than carbon cells for photographic equipment. With alkaline, the older the battery the longer the time lapse between electronic flashes. The nickel cell, or NiHH, is rechargeable and offers more energy storage capacity.
