Shelby Foote selected themes for new Civil War stamps
Article Abstract:
Foote compiled a final list of 10 honorees from each side of the Civil War. Many names had to be cropped but Foote feels that the ordinary American will get a good idea of the various types of people on both sides in the conflict. Legends of the West artist Mark Hess created the portraits.

Civil War sheet has June 29th release date
Article Abstract:
Background information on each of the 20 stamps on the commemorative sheet is given. Pictures of four women including Harriet Tubman, 12 men and four battle scenes makes up the 20 designs. The personalities and scenes are evenly divided between Union and Confederate causes.

Cover posted one week after battle of Fredericksburg
Article Abstract:
A cover postmarked during the Civil War and possibly written about the Battle of Fredericksburg, VA, is described. The letter was postmarked on Dec 22, 1862, just one week after the battle, and was written to an infantry volunteer in Massachusetts.
