Spycraft: The Great Game
Article Abstract:
Activision's $49.95 Spycraft: The Great Game adventure game is an exciting post-Cold War adventure based on the factual Russian elections. Activision consulted former KGB general Oleg Kalugin and former CIA director William Colby when designing the game. Users play the game as a rookie CIA agent who must save the US president from assassination. In the game, international espionage has been entirely restructured due to the break-up of the Soviet Union. Faced with the threat of nuclear arms trafficking and the imminent assassination of the US president, users must manipulate computer tools to locate the assassin. Computer tools include voice-analysis equipment, composite sketches, secret codes and files. Spycraft contains full-motion video, realistic graphics and can be enhanced with online updates. Unlike other spy games, Spycraft realistically represents the operations of government intelligence agencies.

The Raven Project
Article Abstract:
Mindscape's $45 The Raven Project computer adventure game boasts exceptional graphics during game play and enjoyable action scenes but suffers from low-quality full-motion-video footage. The game places players in the role of a rebel fighting aliens who have taken control of Earth. During the game, players maneuver five unique vehicles and endure three different styles of combat. The fact that cinematic-quality video appears in the intro, cut and game play sequences dramatically increases The Raven Project's enjoyment level. The game's battle-robot missions closely approximate the excellent graphics found in the popular MechWarrior 2 action game. The company used full-motion-video to propel the plot but poor acting and 'B' movie ambience in the footage combine to lower the overall quality of The Raven Project.

Aliens
Article Abstract:
Mindscape's $50 Aliens adventure game has some of the best graphics of any game on the market. The game play consists of figuring out how to land the space craft, trying to ward off the aliens and eventually uniting with them to fight an even deadlier common enemy. The 3D aliens are visually impressive, but limited in their mobility. The game is played either from an overhead view or a first-person perspective. Other than the impressive graphic artwork, the game is rather dull. The voice acting is shoddy and the music boring. The puzzles are unnecessarily difficult and the overall playing is unbearably dull.
