Stamp polls: beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Article Abstract:

Collectors do not agree on the beauty of stamps. But the vote for the most unnecessary stamp was the 1980 issue for Philip Mazzei, Italian salesman and friend of Thomas Jefferson who later tried to to sue the US. Other anecdotes about the politics of selecting postage stamp honorees is presented.

The stamp scene has changed over the years

Article Abstract:

Philately is popular although much about it has changed. Today, stamps that are easily gotten are marketed to collectors. Rarer stamps are auctioned some for huge prices. Want lists are not published, but collectors find interest in other buys such as albums, accessories, mixtures and catalogs.
