The Yanmar option

Article Abstract:

Yanmar makes about 50% of the auxiliary diesel boat engines in the US each year. The Japanese firm makes a 15- and 37-hp engines that are excellent for yacht tenders and commercial boats, although they cost more than $10,000 each. Additional Yanmar diesel engines are described.

The new Caterpillar 3126TA has a 3.78 pounds-per-horsepower rating and is a good choice for repowering or upgrading. Caterpillar now offers a complete line of in-line six cylinder marine diesels, but it continues to market the popular 3208 series.

Diesel update '96

Article Abstract:

An overview of the 1996 marine diesel engines from Alaska Diesel Electric, Caterpillar and other major manufacturers is presented. The engines will be exhibited at the Ft Lauderdale International Boat Show in Oct 1995.
