Article Abstract:
Early settlers and migrants to the western United States faced perilous risks in travelling by wagon over trails such as the Oregon Trail. Many died due to lack of food, adverse weather and wagon accidents. The US Postal Service has issued many stamps and postcards commemorating the Oregon Trail.

America's national monuments

Devils Tower is a giant column of volcanic rock that juts up in the middle of the Black Hills in Wyoming. No one can explain the origin of this national monument. A commemorative stamp depicting Devils Tower was issued in 1956.
