An auction of jade and jadiete objects was held recently by Christie's Swire (Hong Kong) Ltd. A pair of jadeite peacocks sold for HK$3,740,000, more than the HK$1.5 million expected. A white jade table screen with carvings was also sold.

Jade has been mined in Guatemala since the time of ancient Central American cultures, and the country is emerging as a source for modern buyers. Archaeologists have identified centuries-old jadeite work sites in Guatemala.
