Article Abstract:

Trim strategically painted on wings and fuselage increases visibility and reduces drag on model airplanes. Trim can be fluorescent or black, the latter to enhance silhouetting. Two mathematical formulas are provided for determining the trim drag coefficient.

Enlightening building techniques

Article Abstract:

It is relatively simple to decrease the weight of hand-launched gliders, but going too far can weaken the plane's structure. Experiments to lighten gliders are described. A video on the building of a lightened Monarch glider is briefly reviewed.

Easy shell construction

Article Abstract:

Composite sailplanes can be built using shell construction by laminating fiberglass and foam vacu-bagged in or over a mold. Use an airfoil plotting program to design the proper shape, using spruce for the leading and trailing edge.
