A brief history of the founding of the United Nations in 1945 just after WOrld War II is recounted. Pres. Truman, a staunch supporter of the UN, addressed the delegates at the signing of the UN charter at the Veterans' Memorial Building in San Francisco, CA.

Columbus landing in Puerto Rico commemorated on postage stamp

The Postal Service will issue a 29-cent commemorative stamp of the arrival of Christopher Columbus in Puerto Rico on Nov 19, 1993, 500 years after the actual landing. A ceremony of the new issuing took place on Aug 18, 1993 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Postage stamp restoration

Article Abstract:

A detailed guide to restoring stamps for a collection is given. Techniques for removing ink marks, stuck-on paper, tape and other external flaws without harming the stamp are given. Solvents and liquids to clean the stamps are recommended.
