Servo-operated Fowler flaps

A scale model of the P-38 Lightning was retrofitted with servo-operated flaps and, with minor modifications to several aircraft parts, performed very well. A scaled-down model of the P-38 showed that the ideal full flap configuration is about 25 degrees.
