Grenada in 1992 issued commemoratives honoring Schouten for his discoveries in the Caribbean. While traveling with co-captain Jakob le Maire, the discoveries of the pair included the Le Maire Strait, islands in the Tuamotu Archipelago, Tonga group, Hoorn Islands, New Ireland.

Mary Henrietta Kingsley
Article Abstract:
Kingsley was one of the few successful female explorers. She traveled more than 1,000 miles through Africa in four months on a journey financed by the British Museum. During her trip, Kingsley collected several species of fish for the museum.

Sixteenth-century Spanish colonizer Pedro de Valdivia led expeditions and conquered many areas in South America, including Chile, Peru and Venezuela. He founded the city of Santiago, Chile. Valdivia did not want to find gold, only land.
