When tobacco farmer Trudie Reed's mother was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx, Trudie decided she no longer wanted to be a part of the tobacco industry. She and her husband started an apple orchard, and made financial sacrifices while establishing the new crop. Their fruit farm is a success.

The lily leaf beetle is here to stay
Article Abstract:
The lily leaf beetle (Lilioceris lilii) has been in the US since 1992, and has invested a one-hundred mile radius of Boston, MA. It strips lily plants of their buds and foliage, leaving yellowing leaves. Planting lilies in the sun or using neem or rotenone can help eradicate them.

Asparagus beetle (crioceris asparagi)
Article Abstract:
The asparagus beetle is found throughout North America where it attacks young asparagus spears in the spring. It leaves black eggs and chewing marks on the spears and then defoliates ferns in the summer. Growing nectar plants attracts ladybugs and lacewings that eat the beetles.
