The plantings that people use around the foundations of their homes are often not well chosen and are poorly maintained. There are many options for foundation plantings. They can make the area as beautiful as in any other place in a garden. They can be simple, but tastefully arranged.

Conifers in the snow are beautiful in northern gardens. However heavy blankets of snow on the conifers can bend them and even snap off branches. Brushing snow from the shrubs with a broom and tying them up with string often helps them weather heavy snowfall.
