Asparagus
Article Abstract:
New asparagus varieties, such as the Jersey Giant and UC 157, are more disease resistant than the traditional Mary Washington and Roberts vegetables. Asparagus also can grow with roots planted only four to five inches deep in the soil. Weed control is critical to successful production.

The gardener's spring
Article Abstract:
In spring, a gardener begins to plan for the vegetable garden. Gooseberries are chosen as one easy-care plant. Some chores which can be done in March include getting seed potato, planting dill and chervil seeds at the edge of the lettuce bed, and buying new gardening gloves.

Compost

The first step in creating a compost heap is laying down a six-inch base of green matter such as weeds, leaves or vegetable matter. This should be topped by a thin layer of manure and soil. Tips on aerating, watering and enclosures are given along with ingredients to avoid.
