Beau Beau's next gig
Article Abstract:
H. Marc Cathey's involvement with horticulture began while sitting with his grandmother and reading the Burpee seed catalogue. His multi-faceted career includes pioneering work in plant development using light and chemicals. Under Cathey's leadership from 1980 to 1990, the National Arboretum expanded its role as a science station to include the development of eight public gardens. He plans to create a plant heat-zone map in association with the American Horticultural Society.

The worm turns
Article Abstract:
Worms are both a blessing and a curse for plants. Gardeners and farmers in the US are being encouraged to use worms to keep their soils aerated, neutralized and fertile, and worms also provide a natural means of creating compost. Native woodlands in parts of Europe, however, are being threatened by non-native worms that their ecosystem can not support.
