Breakfast with a purpose

Article Abstract:

The breakfast meeting can serve as an important forum where hardware store managers and others can discuss topics of common problems, including such things as disagreements between team members, in complete jobs and neglected details. Each meeting has a printed agenda created through the input of managers who list problems they faced or needs they had. The development of several ground rules helps to improve the quality of the meetings as time goes by.

Such problems include non-competitive situations that force a store operator to be on the defensive to protect the business. Such a situation could involve a lawsuit into a store is drawn against its wishes. Despite such roadblocks, operators can always turn adversities into triumphs.

Payless Cashways Inc is expected to have a bright future after emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and following the departure of the company's two top executives David Stanley and Susan Stanton. Payless's ability to respond to change was adversely affected by a debt it took as a poison pill in 1988. The company now is expected to focus on selling building products to professionals.
