Architect Gordon Wittenberg renovated a house in West University Place, a peaceful residential area that is adjacent to a commercial area of shops and restaurants. To insulate the house from the street, he made the main living area one level higher to achieve privacy and for a clearer view of the street.

Sympathetic addition: expands a restoration

Article Abstract:

Architect Robert Cain successfully restored the 1868 farmhouse owned by Travis and Odette Strahan in Early Branch, SC. Most of the original wood was salvaged and a new kitchen addition in the rear uses other salvaged materials that blend with the old house.
