Article Abstract:
Handcarvers of soapstones model their design from the materials' size, weight and contour. Carving soapstones are easy because of their innate softness. Soapstones bear close resemblance to the more expensive jade. Collectors give high regard to older handcarved pieces of soapstones, which are becoming increasingly rare.
