Article Abstract:

The evolution of floor and carpet-cleaning gadgets are illustrated. Brooms gave way to the carpet sweeper which was popularized by Melville Bissell. The carpet sweeper gradually evolved into an electric floor polisher. Along the way, wax was utilized to protect wood floors.

Townsend-Goddard family of Newport

The furniture forms of the Townsend-Goddard family of the mid-18th century to the beginning of the Revolution continue to command high prices in the market. The Townsend-Goddards are famous for their beautiful, perfectly proportioned artistry in cabinetmaking.
