Irons: heat up a pressing collection

Article Abstract:

The Chinese people during the first century B.C. applied heat using long-handled metal pans filled with charcoal in order to press cloth. However, in the 16th century Europe and Russia, pressing was done using an iron shaped like box filled with hot charcoal, which had an added advantage that it eliminated soot-stained linen, a big problem with hot charcoal.
