Fisheries mismanagement
Article Abstract:
Legislation regarding fisheries succeeded in restricting overfishing by foreigners only but has little effect on the national fishing industry. The Magnuson Fishery management and Conservation Act created eight regional management councils to supervise fishing. It also controlled fishing in US waters by foreign fleets. The council system for domestic fishing, however, has failed to balance the demand for fish with appropriate fish management.
