Making a hillside garden room
Article Abstract:
The conversion of an unused hillside space to a low-maintenance garden area and terrace is described. The hillside was filled with ledge rock, and the mediocre soil was bolstered with screened loam. Selected plants included flowering cherries, and a variety of herbaceous and woody plants.

Design solutions: planning an entry garden
Article Abstract:
The front yard at Anne and David Bauer's house didn't offer any buffer from the street did not offer a stylistic welcome to visitors. By adding plants that looked attractive all year round and offered some screening from the street, a much more attractive front garden was created.

Restoring a sunken garden
Article Abstract:
The renovation of a sunken garden found in the backyard of a 1920s Tudor-style house in Chicago, IL, is presented. The new owners of the house had requested that the new garden be resistant to the harsh midwestern weather, yet provide year-long beauty.
