Photographing the face of the south
Article Abstract:
Bruce Roberts had been capturing faces and scenes of the South with his camera since 1956. As photographer for various publications, including Southern Living, he was able to build up a collection of 10,000 negatives and prints, some of which are on exhibit at The Center for American History of the University of Texas at Austin until Aug. 26, 1996.

Growing up: a Southern writer
Article Abstract:
A writer considers herself a Southern writer, despite being a resident of Vermont for the past 29 years. This is because she spent her growing-up years in Tennessee, where she honed her writing skills. Vermont's lush foothills, mountain coves and friendly locals also remind her of her native state.

Our Southernness
Article Abstract:
Southerners living in the North will manage to express their Southernness in their imagination, instinct and overall state of mind. These sentiments are echoed in Southern literature, as two Southern writers in the North have found.
