Article Abstract:

Collectibles did appear in the market seasonally when the traditional sales sources, such as antiques malls, classified trade paper advertising, flea markets, antiques shows, and auctions were dominant. Seasonally themed collectibles are available on a daily basis and some prior seasonal collectibles categories are no longer seasonal.

The importance of regionalism to the value of antiques and collectibles in the United States is discussed. Historical factors are considered and the relationship of regionalism and nationalism explored.
