Selecting a Christmas tree
Article Abstract:
Various species of pine, spruce and fir are described and evaluated as potential Christmas trees. Although all are rated as good for needle retention, only the four fir species were rated very good. Balsam fir rated excellent in all categories, including firmness of branches, and smell.

The earthworms
Article Abstract:
The largest US earthworm is the night crawler which originated in Africa and is about 7 inches long. The number of worms in a garden can be ascertained by counting how many are in an area one square foot and 7 inches deep. Earthworms can live between 10 and 12 years.

Red worms, also known as red wigglers, survive best in a compost area or container with organic substances. Earthworms prefer soil and cannot survive the composting process. Tips on using worms in composting are provided.
