Home Depot settles gender suits

Four class-action gender discrimination lawsuits filed against Home Depot has been settled out of court by the giant Atlanta-based retailer. The $65 million settlement calls for Home depot to implement nationwide hiring practices that give women opportunities equal to those given to men. The lawsuit had accused Home Depot of discriminating against women in compensation, job assignments and hiring for sales and management positions.

Home Depot Inc has agreed to settle a gender discrimination suit that will cost the company $65 million, plus $22.5 million in legal fees, as well as the cost of complying with settlement programs over five years. The company agreed to settle, although it denied any wrong doing. The case, though, demonstrated the need for women to be actively recruited as corporate officers, buyers and store managers.
