Teachers and the timber companies

Article Abstract:

Attempts by the timber industry to introduce school children to an early study of the environment has come under attack from some environmentalists and educators. These critics claim that the games, workbooks and videotapes supplied to the schools are biased to the point of view of the industry. A new project developed by forest-product companies, environmentalists and educators seems to offer the best solution to teaching school-age students about the environment.

What's next for the net? Improved speed, security and savings will characterize tomorrow's Internet, enabling it to fulfill even more complex future demands

Article Abstract:

Even Microsoft's Bill Gates says that it is nearly impossible to determine the future uses of the Internet, but several factors will have to be overcome or corrected before new uses are embraced. The Internet is too slow for many activities. Furthermore, security is a top problem that will have to be resolved before the Internet becomes a place of commerce. The Internet will also have to offer users an incentive to use it, such as savings.

B-i-y at its best

Article Abstract:

Charlotte, NC, homeowner Joe Helenberger has found buy-it-yourself to be a successful strategy for home-improvement projects, thanks in large part to a good working relationship with his contractor, Brian Elkovich. The two completed a 16-by-15-ft sun room on budget, on time, and with no major surprises. Helenberger buys building materials at a Gastonia, NC, Lowe's outlet that he says provides good service and has a good inventory.
