Several eastern cities have been called the birthplace of the Brunswick stew which is made of chicken, and vegetables such as potato, tomato and butter beans. Recipes for three variations on this stew are: Old-Time Brunswick stew, Stew for a Crowd, and Creole Brunswick Stew from New Orleans.

New life for the American elm

The Elm Research Institute has developed an elm tree resistant to Dutch elm disease. The nonprofit institute plans to distribute a million of these trees throughout the US and has a program of municipality membership. A toll-free telephone number is provided.
