The home-television environment: implications for families
Article Abstract:
Television instill negative effects on children which include development of aggressive and violent behavior, undesirable displacement effects, as well as lessened creative thinking and imagination, which are associated with long viewing time. Positiveinfluences of television, on the other hand, include fostering of prosocial behavior. Thus, regulation of viewing time, program content monitoring and parental involvement and discussion are important to stregthen the positive effects of television on children.

Valuing families
Article Abstract:
Congress has finally recognized that they have to address the problems of families on a national scale. Government research has shown that there is an increasing number of families living in poverty and more Americans are worried that their children are not being given quality education, health care and food. Home economists have taken the steps to rectify these problems, however, more concern is needed to push for national reforms.

Single-child families: a dual-career option
Article Abstract:
Single-child families are a practical option when both parents are working. The advantages of having only one child include greater freedom for parents to pursue their career goals, fewer financial worries and a closer relationship with the child. The disadvantages include the undue pressure only children face while trying to excel and the absence of sibling support in times of personal or family crises.
