The psychology of collecting
Article Abstract:
Collecting offers a means of learning about the world, and imposing an order upon reality, which would enable a growing child to experience the world as non-chaotic, or a place where chaos can be turned into order through a set of rules. There is need to turn to adult collectors for an in-depth study of human personality and psychology to understand the drives underlying collecting, and the gratifications it brings.

Netsukes are small carvings used to accessorize the Japanese kimono. These are usually made from wood or ivory with subjects ranging from deities to animals. They have also become valuable collectors' items with prices reaching the hundred thousands.
