Engineering a tomato that does not rot is as practical as creating a vine that does not climb or jalapenos with a bland taste. Natural processes are gardeners' friends. Decaying tomatoes give way to rich compost as flowering vegetables bring seeds for the coming year. Profit must be the motive behind this engineering feat.
