Kent Gullickson and Joe Frankenfield transformed a nearly bare slope behind their house in Oakland, CA into a lush garden filled with leafy trees and plants. Many of the plants are semitropical are are protected by the hillside from the lower temperatures.

Bollinger, a landscape architect, used a 'naturalistic' design to complement the adobe style of a home in Paradise, AZ. He incorporated golden barrel cacti, aged saguaro, Yucca elata and creosote bushes because of their various, seasonal color blossoms.
