Benchmark finds rugs a natural
Article Abstract:
Benchmark Furniture, an Olathe, KS-based furniture retailer, has been putting more importance in rugs, which accounts for approximately 8% to 10% of its total business. Benchmark Furniture's teacher-leader, Bob Davidow, noted furniture stores are a natural niche where one should sell rugs because it is the place where people obtain furnishings for their homes. Davidlow also noted that success in the rugs business comes largely from products with high turnover and low margins. Benchmark Furniture offers a total of 4,000 to 5,000 rugs from vendors that include Nourison, Oriental Weavers/USA, Milliken and American Rug Craftsmen.

Nejad to offer hand-tufted rugs with Flexback
Article Abstract:
Nejad Oriental Rugs has developed the new proprietary flexible back system Flexback, which can be used for manufacturing hand-tufted rugs which will be introduced in October 1998 at the October High Point market. Importer Nejad Oriental Rugs president Ali Nejad indicated that the new technology can produce a hand-tufted rug that is comparable to a fine hand-knotted rug in foldability and flexibility because the creation of fragile and rigid rug backing is eliminated. Nejad has applied to have the system patented both in India and the US.
