First Leisure is focusing on health and fitness and has cut its debt by 100 pounds sterling over a six month period. First Leisure's nightclub operations will be acquired through a management buyout, allowing the company to reduce its debt and make a cash payout to investors. A separate listing will be given to health and fitness operations, using the name of Esporta. Stockholders will obtain a share in Esporta for every share held in First leisure, and then First Leisure will undergo delisting.

Unequal income distribution has been an ongoing major issue in the UK, but statistical data in this area has been flawed, according to a Centre for Economic Performance study. Panel data, conducted over time, would be a more accurate measurement. The study concluded that a cycle of low or no pay existed, re-entry jobs paid less, and little movement existed between high and low income groups.
