La-Z-Boy earnings, sales up
Article Abstract:
La-Z-Boy posted double-digit sales and income gains in the fiscal year ended Apr. 25, 1998. The company reported net income of $49.9 million on sales of $1.1 billion in the fiscal year. The company also expects the steady increases to continue. According to the company's president, Jerry Kiser, the company expects its current backlogs and recent incoming order rates to reflect the strong sales momentum in the first quarter of 1998. The company's first quarter in 1997 was greatly affected by the Chapter 11 filing of Montgomery Ward. The company credits the improvement in new product placements to consumer research performed on April market introductions.
