Container pinch slows shipments
Article Abstract:
An unavailability of shipping containers in the Far East has slowed the import of furnitures from the region to the US, resulting in rising shipping costs. The lack of shipping containers, attributed to the decline of imports from the region due to the Asian financial crisis, has even affected such places as Hong Kong and Singapore, areas considered as the region's shipping hubs. US companies, which have continued to maintain their prices despite an increase in the shipping cost, have reacted to the problem by trying to increase their inventories.
