Ethan Allen aims high
Article Abstract:
Ethan Allen targets to boost its retail sales and expand production capacity by 20% in two years. The manufacturer-retailer firm aims to increase retail sales at its 309 Ethan Allen stores that generated $913 million in 1997. The company also shells out $50 million to its existing facilities in an effort to maximize productivity without the need to set up new factories. Ethan Allen, which phases out its Knob Creek product, is also shifting from mainframe computers to an AS/400-based integrated information system for its entire operation.

Standard-Good link: strong start
Article Abstract:
Standard Furniture's alliance with Good Furniture demonstrated a good start as the two companies showcased a portion of the other's line during product introductions. The alliance finished a successful stint at the San Francisco market in July 1998 and afterwards they appeared at the Tupleo market. The deal is expected to improve Standard's business as it solves the difficulty faced in delivering on time from its Bay Minette, AL, plant. Good had around $50 million in 1997 sales, while Standard had estimated sales of $92 million in 1997.
