Many of the top 100 retail furniture stores are expected to or have already begun expansion plans. Stores that marketed to a broad range of customers experienced the largest sales growth. Companies that cater to a segment of the industry did not do as well, especially high-end furniture stores.

The nine bedding specialists on the Top 100 list added a net 177 stores for a total of 1,614 and a 12.3% unit growth rate for 2000. No. 28, The Mattress Firm, added a net 72 stores, while No. 27, Mattress Discounters, added a net 42 stores.

Top 25 bedding retailers boost sales 11.7%

Information on the rankings of the top twenty-five furniture retailers in the United States is presented. The collective sales of the top twenty-five surged from $3.02 billion in 2002 to $3.37 billion in 2003, an increase of 11%.
