Eye-popping displays add zest to Gallery

Gallery Furniture has opened the second phase of its new store in Houston, TX. The new section comprising 25,000 sq ft is designed to sell a furniture experience as well as a wide selection of furniture, said the firm's president and owner Jim McIngvale. It includes a huge Trojan horse guarding the entrance to a play area. The third and final phase, which is scheduled to open by early 1999, will result in a total of 60,000 sq ft to 70,000 sq ft of selling space compared to its former space consisting 45,000 sq ft. Gallery projects 1998 total revenues to reach over $100 million, an increase from its 1997 sales figure of $88 million.

Seaman's New York special

Seaman's Kids Furniture will unveil two new outlets in metropolitan New York in October 1998, the furniture retailer's first move towards specialty retailing. Seaman's, which intends to operate the new stores as a separate unit, will open a 7,000-sq-ft Seaman's Kids outlet in Carle Place in Long Island, NY, while a Seaman's Plus outlet in Queens, NY, has been transformed into a 12,000-sq-ft Seaman's Kids location. Seaman's Kids, which plans to open a third outlet at King's Plaza in Brooklyn, NY, in early 1999, will be under the leadership of Loreen Epp.
