FLS to settle software-piracy claim
Article Abstract:
Furnitureland South will pay $125,000 as settlement to claims for the company's possession of unauthorized copies of software programs at its High Point, NC, business. The claims were under the investigation of the Business Software Alliance (BSA), an organization of software publishers, which also received the report about the software violations in Furnitureland. BSA reported that Furnitureland cooperated in the investigation by conducting a self-audit, which revealed unauthorized copies of Microsoft and Lotus software on its machines. The furniture retailer also agreed to delete any undocumented copies of software and to reinforce its software management policies and procedures.
