A skill centre built by its users
Article Abstract:
Members of a group for people with learning difficulties built their own centre to a design based on the Segal method of construction. Architect, Simon Yauner designed the building for the Camden Society for People with Learning Difficulties and work was supervised by a carpenter who trained the volunteers in basic building skills. The Segal method uses timber frame construction. It is flexible and cheap yet can be designed to meet high standards of insulation and loading.
