Group to buy 70% stake in Simmons

Fenway Partners, an investment firm based in New York, has inked a definitive agreement to purchase an approximate 70% stake in Simmons Co. in a deal worth about $500 million. Once the purchase is completed, a group of Simmons senior managers and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan will own another 25%. Simmons' current majority owner, Investcorp, who paid around $253 million in March 1996 for a 70% stake in Simmons, will still retain its 5% stake. Simmons Chairman Zenon Nie stated that Simmons was thrilled to commence its alliance with Fenway.
