Ikea scores with baby ads

IKEA Svenska AB attracted an estimated 25,000-plus people during the opening of its new home furnishings store in the Chicago suburb, MI, thanks to its yellowbillboard that features the 'crawling baby.' Aside from the famous billboard, the company's advertising campaign was also comprised of newspaper ad, direct mail and broadcast, intended to create consumer awareness. The store opening was also promoted on the Internet and a trip to Sweden was also given.

Retailers helped out with food, water, generators and supplies in the wake of Hurricane Charley's destruction. The damages are estimated at several million dollars and retailers suffered lost sales in hundreds of thousands of dollars.
