Leather goes mainstream
Article Abstract:
Leather has received better reception from consumers, with such factors as price, popularity and good supply helping its penetration into the mainstream. Lynn Gerber-Jenkins, co-owner of Leather Co., said that leather furniture, with price ranging from $999 to $1,299, has gone to capture the Gen X market, the mobile types in their 30s and 40 as well as empty nesters. Gerber-Jenkins also observed that consumers are inclined to purchase brown leather, from beige to saddle, but there is enough interest in colors black, terracotta, yellow, true purples, warm reds, teal, hunter and dark blue.

Laura Ashley lightens up
Article Abstract:
Laura Ashley veers towards more relaxed and lighter themes for its 1998 fall furniture collection, and away from the typical fashions that it is popular for. The design house makes use of pale gold, oatmeal, oyster, raspberry and denim, as headline colors for the collection, instead of the dark, heavy greens and burgundies. Laura Ashley's fall furniture collection involves a trio of new prints in monotone florals called Wilsford, upholstery cushions echoing embroidery, characteristic bow and buttoning details and painted pine case goods.
