Mohawk Inds. set to acquire World Carpets
Article Abstract:
Mohawk Industries of Calhoun, GA, the second largest carpet producer in the U.S., is expecting a Dec. 31, 1998 completion of the $150 million acquisition of World Carpets, the fourth largest carpet company founded in 1954 by the Shaheen Shaheen family. The purchase, to be paid in stocks of Mohawk, is expected to add additional sales of about $431 million a year to Mohawk's current revenue of around $1.9 billion in 1997. Importer alliances expand rug options
Article Abstract:
Some US rug suppliers are building new alliances with other vendors in order to offer consumers a broader array of designs, constructions and price points. For instance, when Shaw comes up with a proposal for a rug gallery, it also recommends other items for imported hand-tufted, hand-knotted and hand-hooked rugs. Don Whitfield, vice president of Shaw's Rug Division, and Alex Peykar, a Nourison principal, said the two companies have no formal agreements. Peykar said they see machine-made rugs as complementing hand-made products.
