The rise in steel prices have compelled the bedding producers to reconsider their options regarding increasing their prices to the retailers, searching for overseas suppliers and remerchandising their product lines. Many bedding producers are of the opinion that alternative suppliers should be considered and the hike in the steel prices may lead to the development of specialty sleep products and an increase in the use of foam products.

Innerspring price hikes many dampen retail sales

The unanticipated rise in prices of steel has affected the mattress industry. The innerspring prices were hiked by 36% from last fall by Leggett & Platt and yet another revision is announced for 8%. The industry feels the price hikes will affect the retail sales.
